Do You Feel Like You Hate Your Partner?

YES, this happens, and - NO - you AREN’T a horrible person!

With the rapid hormone fluctuations during perimenopause, and even with low hormones in post-menopause, women can have challenges with frustration tolerance, to say the least!

What Does This Look Like?

  1. Feeling deeply dissatisfied with your partner

  2. Experiencing isolation, distance, and emotional flatness - as though the bond has been broken

  3. Intense feelings of anger and disgust directed at your spouse

  4. The desire to run away and start again with someone else

What Can You Do When You Have These Thoughts and Feelings?

  • Recognize that they are there, and - although it’s uncomfortable - it’s OK. You don’t need to be scared

  • Be honest with your partner: communication is key

  • Consider seeing a couples counsellor

  • When you are filled with rage, remove yourself from the situation and do something soothing: go for a walk in nature, journal, meditate, or listen to relaxing music

If lifestyle changes and clear communication don’t feel like enough, there are pharmaceutical options, including hormone therapy, that may help.
